Antique Victorian Diamond North Star Pendant
A circa 1880’s Victorian diamond North Star pendant, featuring all old mine cut diamonds, with a few of the tiniest being rose cuts, totaling approximately 4.20 carats. The center stone is a 1 carat oval mine cut with a little warmth to it -estimated K,L,M range. The diamonds are set in silver, with an 18k jump ring and bail. Was probably originally a pin as most of these were.
The North Star is remarkably symbolic. Besides the sacred geometry of the eight pointed star, the North Star is the brightest star in the constellation, and with its fixed position relative to other stars, you can always use it to find North. Thus the North Star is associated with navigation, guidance, and purpose. From the 1860’s onward, the star was one of the most significant motifs used in jewelry in the Victorian and Edwardian eras. It is after all, timeless in its appeal.
