18th Century Portuguese Amethyst Earrings

$3,000.00
sold out

Dramatic and romantic Iberian “Lazo” (Spanish for bow) earrings circa 1790-1810 with diamonds and foiled amethysts. Each earring has four sections, each designed to move separately, so the stones twinkle and glisten as they catch the light. They are so exquisitely made, and full of diamonds, a mixture of rose cuts and old mine cuts, along with foiled amethysts in gold, closed back settings. The diamonds are set in silver. The earrings weigh 8 grams each and I would describe them as substantial but not uncomfortably heavy. They were converted to posts, and this actually makes them easier to wear because they do not pull down, and also the pretty diamond bow looks so good sitting on the ear lobe. The posts are 14k. Due to the foiling, one small amethyst is paler in color. They are in very good antique condition and are very wearable.

a little over 2 inches in length

Early Portuguese marks to the back.
